Discipline

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and their accomplishment.”

This afternoon I was looking for some inspirational guidance that I can give to my subordinate leaders. In doing so I was scrolling through some notes that I made on my phone, and found the above quote. Little did I realize, the fact that the quote was in my phone in the first place is the total embodiment of the statement in itself.

I can’t honestly remember where I heard the quote, I only know that I’ve made it a habit to record voice notes when I’m listening to an audiobook or podcast while driving. I try to make it a habit to introduce inspirational material every day, first thing, while on my way to work. This daily practice in itself is a discipline that has paid dividends over the past four years. I’ve mentioned previously that it is of great importance to be on a constant pursuit of excellence. What better way than to surround yourself with the vocabulary of motivation, one which sets no boundaries for you, one which is often the opposite of what we unfortunately surround ourselves with on a daily basis?

The end of 2016, going into 2017, has been an extraordinary time for me. I attribute much of the success to the daily disciplines, and habits that I have exercised consistently – Much like the one mentioned above. So, ask yourself, what things are you doing on a daily basis to bring you closer to excellence? My commander commended me recently for doing what he calls, “The routine things routinely.”

To further illustrate my point, I am dictating this post to my phone while I make spaghetti as my wife comes home from baseball practice with my three boys. Yes, three.

I figure I would stop holding myself to the unattainable standard of back to back epics, and get back to my passion – that is, communicating with a population of people who have a shared insight on what it means to be a great person, a person of influence.

Until next time,

Did no one ever tell you?

Has no one ever told you?

Today I want to talk about something that has been keeping people on the sidelines, and has prevented them from doing what they’ve wanted to do. I see this far too often, and feel in needs to be addressed. To do this, let me tell you a story. Continue reading

And we all fall down…P.2

A reintroduction…

For those of you curious as to what has been going on, things have been crazy in this household. It has been a period of five months now, and the family continues to work through a very complex recovery process. So, here’s the beginning to how I was injured, what resulted from the injury, and how we are pushing forward… back towards greatness.

Going Home!

The drive home was difficult to deal with. My sense of gravity, where the ground was, and my vision were all out of whack. I was extremely sensitive to light, sound made my head feel like it was in a vice, and I had the strangest taste lingering in my mouth. When I arrived home, I immediately went into my semi-permanent chamber, The basement.

26 July 2015:

Much progress has been made with my team during this week’s training exercise. Everyone recieved some good training; several of the young leaders received some much needed mentorship; and we got to shoot the hell out of some machine guns—we were on fire and overall pleased with the outcome. It’s time to head home for an early birthday celebration, our boys are turning 8 and 11 this week!

Happy early birthday, brudders! All they’ve wanted since we’ve moved here was a trampoline. (It took way too long to assemble and couldn’t be enjoyed that evening.)

The following morning at home, I was feeling great. I remember planning out the day in my head: do some yard-work, get some good breakfast, work on some fitness, and take the family out somewhere nice. Mission accomplished! That is, until the fitness part. Continue reading

Is it too late for change?

Hello everyone! We hope all is well, and that you are constantly pursuing new ways to improve yourselves. This post is about a recent visit from Grandpa, and how he has made some small changes in his daily routines that have made an amazing change in his health! Enjoy!

My, how things have changed.

Going home to Texas to visit the family…food, beer, laughs, and more food. This seemed to be the daily agenda: enjoy the fact that we were together, splurge on whatever we could, and reminisce on days past. The “splurging”, however, came with its consequences. Every time we’d go home, I would gain about 10 lbs., the Mrs. would complain about the bloat and eczema flare-ups from all the corn (tortillas and pupusas), and leave back to work to work though the added weight. It would work out okay for me, I had the military . This wasn’t the case for my father, though. Continue reading

Values and Beliefs

Hello, everyone! We hope all is well, and would like to thank you all for your patience. Here is an old post we were working on, but never got to finish. It touches on values, beliefs, and how our logo captures  what we want to represent. Enjoy!

Some time ago, we discussed establishing your family’s identity, and developing your family’s core values. So, today we will go into more detail what I mean when I say values or beliefs.

The best example that I have to share with you comes from a very inspirational man. You may know him for Continue reading

Story Time

The winter season gives us a perfect excuse to huddle together and share some of our memories with our little ones. Read on and see why we are planning on making this a regular practice. – The Warrior Family

The winter here in VA keeps the temperatures down, and the snuggle time high. This gives me the perfect excuse to setup a nice fire in the family room, and kick back with my lovely wife. The other evening, we were joined by our two boys. Earlier that day, I had told them a story about my childhood, and they wanted to to hear more. Initially, I hesitated. I just wanted to sit back, enjoy my drink, and, have some quiet time with my wife – but they insisted. This, at first, kind of annoyed me. Continue reading
